One of the best destinations in Brazil for ecotourism lovers, Jalapão is still being discovered by travellers who like to explore new routes. The difficult access helps preserve the region, which still receives few tourists in search of the attractions of the cerrado. However, those who take the plunge will not regret it. Jalapão offers tourists rivers with clear water and delicious waterfalls, such as Cachoeira da Velha and Cachoeira do Formiga; the rare phenomenon of the fervedouros, where deep springs transform into oases that allow visitors to float effortlessly; a set of golden dunes perfect for sunsets; and rock formations that look like they were made on paper, so perfectly designed by nature, such as Serra do Espírito Santo and Pedra Furada. Where is Jalapão and how to get there

Jalapão is 300 km from Palmas Airport (PMW), the main gateway for those arriving from other states in search of the beauties of the region. From Palmas, it will be necessary to hit the road. And the Jalapão roads are for those who are very experienced in sandy paths. A vehicle with 4×4 traction is essential on a trip to Jalapão, as is a good knowledge of the region’s roads. For this reason, the most common thing among tourists is to make the trip to Jalapão with an agency and not on their own.

Best time to go to Jalapão

Jalapão can be visited all year round, but it is important to be aware of the rainy season and the dry season to choose the best time for you. The dry season, which lasts from May to September, has practically no rainfall and the closer you get to September, the drier the air will be. The advantage is that the drier the climate, the more beautiful the sunsets in Jalapão. The rainy season goes from October to April, the period when there are waterfalls with more water, but the unstable weather can hinder the tours, the hike up the Serra do Espírito Santo trail and the spectacular sunset.

The heat is constant in Jalapão and, even during the rainy season, the sun never fails to appear. The temperature variation during the year is small, with maximum between 30°C and 34°C and minimum between 15°C and 20°C. The temperature of the water in the fervedouros and waterfalls is always pleasant and a relief in the intense heat of Tocantins.
